The increase in import and energy supply costs has affected the steel production of factories in Turkey in recent months, and on the other hand, the support measures of different countries for their domestic market have also had a negative effect on Turkey’s export market. In May, steel imports to Turkey decreased by 23.6%, which was due to the increase in strictures of other countries.
According to Iran Steel, on the other hand, in recent months, Russia has focused on the Turkish market with its low prices, which was due to European sanctions. Billet imports from Russia increased by 75% in May and reached 214,000 tons.
It should also be mentioned that the consumption of steel in Turkey increased by 0.7% to 2.9 million tons in May, and the production rate decreased by 1.4% compared to the same period last year and was recorded at 3.2 million tons. Turkey’s steel exports also dropped by 23.6 percent in the previous month and recorded 1.3 million tons.
